Transfer Totty: As The Özil Turns – UPDATED
Better find a new jar of Nutella, Kickettes, we’ve got some tanned, smooth Turkish-German abs on the menu. Photo via Nordphoto and the Weser Kurier.
UPDATE: Mesut has made a move to Real Madrid!
For those all up in the Bundesliga mix, you’ll be well aware of the ongoing saga with Mesut Özil, who currently plays for Werder Bremen. Will he re-sign with the club? Will he head to the EPL or La Liga? Will he hire us as the qualified belly button de-fluffers the world knows we are? Let’s talk about this.
July 31: An interview with Werder general manager Klaus Allofs says there have been no concrete offers on Özil, and that he is still on vacation in Spain. Allofs does say that if Mesut decides to leave Werder, they’ve already got enough attacking midfielders.
August 2: Mesut is back in Bremen. Nutella sales rise.
August 5: Weser Kurier speculates that Özil does not look like someone who’s going to leave Werder, as he’s working very hard on the pitch. They also speculate that if he does leave, it’s going to be for England; Allofs states that MO still hasn’t re-signed, though they’ve been trying to pin him down for some time.
You see where this is going, yes? No one, not even Mesut’s left ab, knows where he’s going.
As it stands: although Mr. O still has one year left on his contract, he has yet to sign a new deal with Werder; he was quoted many moons ago about wanting to go to a winning team in the Premier League; over in the winning land of La Liga, Real Madrid and Barca could certainly afford his tanned and toned ab situ, but being the hottest benchwarmer in town is hardly a great option. Just ask Migi.
But wait: Now that Kaká has a knee injury and is out for a while, maybe Real will sign Özil as a replacement?
And: hot Viking Torsten Frings wants him to stay. Who would dare argue?
Weigh in Bundes-gals, do you think Mesut should make a move?
