Transfer Window Closes: Ennui Sets in

image

imageThe transfer window is finally closed and it couldn’t happen soon enough for us.

Robbie Keane heading back to Tottenham is hugely annoying, not least because we never got to see the WAG war between Alex Gerrard and Claudine Keane come to fruition.

And any excitement over seeing l’il Andrei Arshavin doing his Russian thing in the EPL has kind of been killed.

Allow us to make a few analogies about our ennui:

The let down feels worse than waiting for months for your favourite singer’s new download and then discovering they’ve released an album of Crazy Frog Christmas remixes;

feels as disappointing as your brand new flatmate who works for Prada and gets everything on discount moving in and you realise she’s two sizes smaller than you;

and let’s be real – it feels just like a big ole build up with promises of glory and fireworks and instead of the huge levels of potential and satisfaction anticipated, it just peters out and fades… and dies.  Ladies – and gents – you know what we’re talking about.

Anyone else feeling a little let down by any of the big transfer news? Or has your team made a move you’re excited about? (Quaresma to Chelsea, for example?)

i was looking forward to seeing Kaka in the PL.
i suppose we all knew it wasnt going to happen, no ones really excited me tbh.
and robbie keane, i thought he said liverpool was where his heart is? … was it all just lies?

  2. Moonie says:

Im also amused as to why Shay Given’s move would be seen as a disaster (unless you happen to be Joe Hart of course!) City might not be leading the race for the title, but the last time I checked we were still several places above the Toon not to mention still being in the UEFA cup. I don’t personally think it was either of these things that attracted him though – I think he just felt he’d hung in at SJP for as long as any sane person could and although we might be a circus as well, at least we’re a circus with a billionaire ring master meaning there’s at least a chance of good players coming in!!!!

City is in choas on a level that even Newcastle is not. They are completely manic right now and there is no reason to think it will get any better. There main goalscorer is currently under rape charges, they went after Kaka and got Bellamey, Hughes is so dangling on the edge and they are in a religation fight too.

Additionally, the stablitiy of the shek is something to wonder about how long they would be involved without winning everything (true for a lot of the new owners who buy the clubs as toys…See Roman at Chelsea who rumor has it is totally bored and more interested in his new girlfriend then the club)

Had he gone to a good team it might be different but he sold out for the cash and that has consequences. Ask Robbie….plus City fans will never embrace him the way Toon fans did. When he lets in 6 there, he will not still be voted MOTM

  4. Ali says:

uh oh :S well thx for the info at least! Arsene will whip him into shape like he's done with gallas and bendtner and…well nm, at least he'll have fun on the team karaoke nights.

  5. DC says:

I actually thought this transfer window wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
    at least it’s over

Hope Robbie gets back to the fiery form he was in before that doomed move to Anfield. Yea happy about the Quaresma move I guess…we badly need some width now that Joe Cole’s out and we only have that fool Malouda.

can someone PLEASE just explain to me what they carry in those murses? like honestly, what do you need for the three hours that you're at practice that the club can't provide? …but i do give style points where they're due. love jenas' gucci carryall. matches my luggage :)

  9. LoveLamps says:

Q is a greasy, tanned guy who wears big diamond earrings. Yeah, not so hot IMHO. I'm hopeful he can play. Keane – hope 'Arry treats him well and he returns to form, just not against my Blues. Shay Given – dear GOD Man City now has two hot goalkeepers! Moonie, I'm coming to visit to chase them both! Arshavin – hate Chelsea missed him. Hope he does well, but not THAT well, at Arsenal.

This transfer window was very snore-worthy! Compared to last September and the Berba lottery — that was AMAZING! Such a crazy, stressful day. This transfer deadline day – I literally slept through it. I’m glad it worked out for Robbie Keane though. Shame we won’t get to see him anymore on Special 1 TV.

Gotta love those man purses!!! smile

Im quite fond of Robbie Keane and wish him all the best on his return to Tottenham.

And I am super excited over Quaresma’s move to Chelsea although a little puzzled since Scolari never used him much when he was coaching the Portuguese national team. Wonder what that is all about but hoping for the best. Fingers crossed.

(And before I go..@Lovelamps; Quaresma is part Roma and the “tan” is his natural coloring. Your comment is culturaly insensitive and ignorant. Unlike Lamps, Quaresma doesnt have to go “orange” for some coloring, its a permanent glow. Get educated.)

thank you kickette for breaking down all the pieces of the arshavin disappointment for your readers.

  13. Rebecca says:

Arshavin looks like a little hobbit, how cute :)

  14. LizB (Mrs. Vucinic) says:

Blah, it was a bummer. Though Keane moving back to Spurs was good (for him at least), we at Pool just weren't going to give him the playing time he deserves. I really want to give him a big hug though, must be a tough time for him. I completely agree with the Arshavin thing, I was excited at first and then it dragged out for so long I got really bored with it.

  15. Der Lutscher says:

well, he is spoilt rotten with the way he was treated in Russia by his employees, all that crazy money, etc. but as most russian players he is unstable and his football pretty much depends on his mood and he is so not used to working hard the way EPL requires. Pavluchenko had the very same troubles with Spurs but he is basically a very simple nice guy, all smiles and sunshine, when Arshavin is, how to say, not, he is quite an unpleasant person, really. And all that transfer money battle made me just plain ashamed that this is supposed to be our country's best fucking player…

  16. 'TorresNubianQu says:

yea i think wenger can keep arshavin under control….happy to c him play in the premier league ;-)

  17. mrscudicini says:

#1 – I feel for Joe Hart- pretty blonde boy getting replaced! #2 Quaresma (sp? WTF- I don't care) is greasy a la Ronaldo and Chelsea's hottie quotient has taken another hit… # I am relieved for the end of the Transfer window. I lose sleep…of course, my nightmare came true this time, so maybe I needn't worry any longer…

  18. Dani.Mrs José says:

I kinda have a thing for Arshavin .. i have no idea whatsoever why.. and the keane thing really bugged me ! glad he went back though so he can get some first team football !

  19. aristeia says:

Oh Robbie. D: What a mess. I honestly hope that he does well back at the Spurs! He's a great player, a great guy and I love to watch him for ROI. That Arshavin thing was all build up and no oomph. Bah. There was a thousand times more frenzy over the Kaka debacle. Frankly, I'm glad it's over– b/c Agger is still with us! Phew!

  20. Ali says:

Der Lutscher! Why do you say Arshavin's more trouble than he's worth? This whole transfer bizness has already got me a little worried. Is he really such a diva, have any details? Hilarious vid though HiL. :D

  21. Venice says:

I'm kind of :-s on Robbie going back to Tottenham because he's apparently a contender for Luka's position :-/ Unless Jamie's Dad finds a way to play them both. I'd much prefer if he went to Celtic for example, and get his first team football there.

  22. Tres Bien says:

I think everyone who knows me knows how I feel.

  23. TammyV says:

Shay's soon to prove diasterour move to Man City…Robbie really should have given him the heads-up on that one after his own diasterour move to Liverpool. I am very happy with the stuff Newcastle did. I wish we did more but for a Jan it was good.

  24. carly says:

The whole transfer window is an excuse for agents to earn some cash – e.g. the Tottenham transfers – Chimbonda, Defoe, Keane…Enough!! Boring!!

  26. Sarah says:

Call me na?vely optimistic, but yeah Ali, I think Arshavin will shape up under Wenger's guidance. I mean, RVP was a bit of a train wreck before he came to Arsenal, wasn't he? But he's fine now.

  27. Erin says:

The whole thing with Robbie just makes me sad. I have always liked him and always will. But unfortunately I think this was probably the best move for all involved.

  28. HiL says:

I love Arshavin. brilliant player. even though i’m not an Arsenal fan it would be great to see him on the EPL. and i can’t talk about Arshavin without mentioning this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3e7qMqj_eM hilarious. XD

  29. banri says:

Aw Keane and Jenas all smiles! Made my night.

  30. Der Lutscher says:

I feel so sorry for Keane that he couldnt make it in Liverpool (which “I simply can’t understand the fascination” with), but then there’s a whole lot of great players whose opportunities and hopes were cut short by a big snobbish clubs like Liverpool (or for example Bayern Munich), so it’s great that he still gets a warm welcome at his “home” club. And Arshavin is a little shit, being from the same country as he is, believe me, he is much more trouble than he is any good (specially to Arsenal).

  31. Dreamgirl says:

Good luck Robbie. No doubt the Spurs fans can’t wait to have you back.

  32. carly says:

  33. Boston Red says:

Ha – why on Earth would Shay Given’s move to Man City be disastrous (or whatever word you took a stab at spelling there)? Granted, City aren’t the greatest, but Shay effing Given does not deserve to be on a team that fights relegation every year. Also delighted for Robbie. Good move for everyone involved there. Too bad he was never given a chance at Anfield.

I’m excited about Quaresma to Chelsea, but beyond that, my mouth is shut :)
