WAG Tag Watch: Christine Bleakley
Christine Bleakley joined a shortlist of footballers’ partners who reject their WAG titles by claiming to be “fiercely independent” in an interview with The Mail on Sunday’s Live Magazine. If you’ve not read the whole thing, allow us to sum it up.
- Then she added, “I might be the girlfriend of a footballer, but I’ve got my own career outside of that.” Remember, Christine got axed from ITV1′s Daybreak last year, so some could technically argue otherwise. Then again, she eventually accepted an offer to co-present Dancing on Ice, and did so to less than stellar ratings and reviews in her first season.
- Before she met Lampsy, Bleakley said she always got recognised, but only by people in the UK. Now that her relationship with the high profile Chelsea midfielder is out in the global domain, however, she’s “grown used to being recognised all over the world.”
Tut, tut, Christine. Your mates already know you’re a working girl, while the general population already knows how much your engagement ring is reportedly worth. To justify your career by announcing you don’t want to be called a WAG – only to then turn around and say a lot of your notoriety is thanks to your relationship status is a step too far up the righteous ladder.
Plus slagging off the WAG tag is so 2008. So, there.
Kickettes, where do you stand on the WAG branding issue?
