Physician training however is another subject and medical schools need to heed the advice of senior and often retired physicians who could provide critical advice in reforming and improving undergraduate medical education. Imagine that the common denominator of patients who seek medical attention is often pain.
What saves most cautious practitioners from legal sanctions is the ability to exercise compassion and empathic connection to their patients, apart from personal financial gains. This is a cautious ballet but good medicine is what this is all about.
Medicine remains an art and medical practice will continue to be practice eclipsed with the inevitable changing paradigms.
"To err is human" and this echoes throughout the halls of academic medicine and clinical medicine annals. Medical standards as well as the gold standard by which standards are drawn, the random controlled trials, often have fatal errors that are not known a priori and sometimes years later after standards are established and practiced.
