WBIWWSI Files: Becks to Climb Kilimanjaro

image

From the “we’ll believe it when we see it” file, there is a story out today that David Beckham has plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with Bono and West Ham keeper Robert Green.

A source said the ascent of the 19,340ft snow-capped peak was “outside of Becks’ normal comfort zone” – but he was determined to do it… The source added: “He was a bit uncertain at first but he found out, like many celebrities before him, that Bono can be very persuasive.

Let’s just break down a few minor discrepancies with factual details here, shall we?

Surely Bono’s powers of persuasion are nowhere near the level of Victoria Beckham’s, and she couldn’t even stop this from happening. Also: what kind of insurance company is going to agree to this set up? Double Also: don’t people go slightly insane whilst climbing these things due to the lack of oxygen and having to pee behind a rock for six days straight?

We cannot see any of the Beckham camp agreeing to Sir Becks peeing in the vicinity of any of the general public, least of all those who are crazy, unwashed and wielding cameras. We call hell no on this rumour.

An uphill climb is always tougher, right? And it might have something to do with having to adjust to the changing altitudes the higher they get. If they’re not careful with it, they’ll get sick. I think. I’m not exactly an expert.

  2. MrsJamieRedknapp says:

I saw Robert Green on Soccer am and he said it takes five days to climb up and two days to get back down. What do they do? Just shove them off the top??

    Bonkham <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/lol.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="LOL" style="border:0;" />

  3. FootballerChick43 says:

If this is true, then I’m Winston Churchill’s great-grandmother. I mean, Becks to me seems like a pampered little prince. Theres no way he could be a rugged-outdoorsy type for that long. He’d probably get cold and go back down. And I’m as big a Beckham fan as anybody. I love Beckham. But theres NO WAY I could see him do something like that.

  4. Goblin says:

lol! u suck, hard! probably like what is going on in that perspicacious slash. aoife, god, you are killing me

    LOL

SW: cris. no, no thank you

  5. TammyV says:

I know it is shocking Rusty, I know

  6. Rusty says:

tammy, omg, you mean he’s not interested in the Galaxy? Whatever for…?

    </ sarcasm >

  7. jax says:

Wow, the lengths he has to go to get away from Tom Cruise ! Bono?! Out of the frying pan and into the fire, methinks Becks.

    He definitely won’t go because:

    a. Too dangerous – listening to Bono droning on about world poverty/rainforests/ozone layer will push him over the edge, literally.

    b. There will be no room in his backpack for his extensive skin-care regime.
      <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/wink.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="wink" style="border:0;" />

  8. tammyv says:

Rusty, I am sure he got it Fred Segal two days before at most…

and an entire season Rusty?? I would just be happy if he didn’t travel to NYC for a fashion party in the middle of the week missing training. He so doesn’t want to be there…

On the idea that this could be true, it would totally explain the random beard issue

  9. MrsMichaelOwen says:

“ Bonkham” lol i agree you should be inspired more!

  10. Rusty says:

It’s 12 hours later and I’m still giggling at Bonkham. I’d say I need professional help, but I’m pretty sure I don’t.

    keyword: west59 Go West…err, you’re s*** and you know you are…

  11. Rusty says:

yeah, I’m still giggling at “Bonkham.“

And at Becks’ shirt, which is probably designed to look retro but is actually about three months old.

Why do we always hear about celebs climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro? Why not actually play an entire season of MLS, Becks?

I just found the stupid-funniest birthday card. I may have described it on here but I can’t remember.

  12. Sarah x says:

Basically.. I’ll Believe It When I See It! :D

  13. MrsXabiAlonso says:

You should get inspired more often Aoife, that really made me laugh <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/lol.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="LOL" style="border:0;" />

Anyway, back to the story. Good on Rob for doing that, it will be a tough job, but so much more worth while than sitting on a beach like most other ballers and their bimbo’s. I can’t however see Becks doing it!! But I bet he’d even make the climbing gear look hot, only man to ever make lycra ((is that what they wear??))look good…!!

  14. Aoife says:

    MXA: It was a rare moment of inspiration for me. <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/grin.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="grin" style="border:0;" />

God, the thoughts of that pairing….*shivers*

  15. MrsXabiAlonso says:

I cant post right now, I’m still too busy laughing at ‘Bonkham‘!!!!!!!

  16. Becca x says:

Like You Said Kickette, We Will Believe it When We See it wink

I Dont Think It Will Happen.

  17. Anja says:

LoveLamps, that’s a new way to look at it. Though I don’t fancy David, I would appreciate those pictures.
And Becks has got nothing on Sean Bean, imo.
    But what do I know. <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/wink.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="wink" style="border:0;" />

  18. DiorHeels says:

Hell to the no, David! I doubt that Victoria would want him ruining his complexion in the high altitudes. Anyway, I’m not even going to try to deal with the risk of my first footy love dying so…stick to the football pitch, love!

  19. LoveLamps says:

If he goes, I’m sure everyone and their brother will follow with cameras. And God bless them and I hope they take lots of pictures of him sweating!

  20. estrafalario? says:

sounds rather eccentric. probably a RESPONSE was REQUESTED and the media just ran with it.

SW: beeb: waiting for the beeb to confirm it wink

  21. Elise says:

TFO, I remembered your post about Robert Green on your blog! So I knew that part was true. And, without doubt, Bono could persuade ME to do just about anything! LOL So maybe we will see cold-weather Becks.
Also…is it just me or is Becks looking really good in this pic? Maybe it’s the fact that he’s just watching the game and not posing. I don’t know. I’ve never been mad about him (nearly naked pics aside) but this pic is working for me. Perhaps it’s because he’s looking very ‘Sean Bean circa Macbeth’.

  22. tammyv says:

NO way the Galaxy allow him to do this…he has clauses in his contract that bar him doing anything that can cause injuries like all professionals althets: no motorcycles,no skydiving,no anything that injures them. Cobi Jones could not ski for 12 years that he was with the team.

I can’t west ham being ok it either…

  23. Anja says:

    Bonkham <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/lol.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="LOL" style="border:0;" />

  24. KJ Ronaldo says:

i can only hope this is just a rumor.

  25. Aoife says:

He was a bit uncertain at first but he found out, like many celebrities before him, that Bono can be very persuasive

A new slash pairing in the cyberverse!? Becksillas is no more! It is now Bonkham.

It’s from The Sun – there’s all the proof you need.

  26. DC says:

huh. weird. I’ll believe it when I see it.

    SW: evidence

    lmao.

  27. Huyton Princess says:

There’s no doubt it would be fantastic publicity for him. And what’s good for him is good for Victoria <img src="http://www.kickette.com/images/smileys/ohoh.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="oh oh" style="border:0;" />

Or maybe I’m just being hugely cynical?

  28. Robert Green is making the climb for charity, so that part of the story is true.

    http://freshlegs.blogspot.com/2008/05/aint-no-mou…

As for David, maybe, maybe not. I wouldn’t rule it out. It wouldn’t be a physical challenge for him, more a scheduling challenge.

  29. Huyton Princess says:

    LOL LOL LOL

How absolutely priceless. Never in a million years is this true. The crap that some people come out with never fails to amaze me.

  30. Erin says:

Funny enough….a friend of mine just returned last week from climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro! It is not a technical climb. It is very physically exhausting, obviously, but it isn’t life threatening and it doesn’t require any climbing skills. So Becks could easily do it.

  31. This story is so not true.

  32. brandy says:

Sadly enough, this may happen. LA makes “normal” people do weird things. Like convert to Scientology and other such things.

  33. Moongirl (Mrs Senderos) says:

Probably a load of rubbish but if it is true good on him!

and just a side note – Id never noticed what lovely fingers hes got smile
