WC Qualifiers: A Study of Faces

Celebrations are better if you are elevated

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the many different faces we’ve seen recently in World Cup qualifying action.

There’s the good-old fashioned happy face, as seen (above), by Algerian keeper, Faouzi Chaouchi.

Sheva!
The “don’t want you to see the tears” Face (Ukraine’s Shevchenko)

Essam al-Hadary, Eqypt.
The “I could give a shite if you see me cry, I’m a man and I have feelings” Face (Egypt’s al-Hadary)

Russia's Anyukov ain't happy wit chu
The “bish, I’ll cut you” Face (Anyukov, Russia)

Pepe
The “aggro-happy” Face (Pepe, Portugal)

His abs are happy
The “my abs are overjoyed with emotion about this victory” Face (Perez, Uruguay)

He who smelt it, dealt it, Vida!
And, our personal favourite, the “Who farted?” face, as brought to us by Serbia’s Nemanja Vidic.

Wow, I just love racist rants…*rolls eyes*

How about you go find an Arabic/Egyptian dictionary and look up the words “SOUR GRAPES”.

  2. Gigi Neville-Brown says:

Ireland were robbed. If FIFa truly want to bring the “integrity” as they call it back into the sport, they should have a rematch. End of discussion.

  3. ms independant says:

There are idiots in most parts of the land.
We can’t always generalize. I don’t speak about everybody.

  4. tiktok says:

    Vida <3 :)

  5. Mabel says:

omg….. I LOVE Kickette sooooooooooooo much..! Those are some funny shits..! ;D

  6. vane says:

    diego perez <3 i love him! :)

  7. ms indépendant says:

Especially in Algeria, the egyptian soccer welcomed with open arms. Shame for you !!! and tahia el djazair, vive l’algérie !!!!!! Algerie mon amour !!!! algérie pour toujours !!!!!

  8. Chikezie says:

referees have been deciding games since i was born, they should not blame henry. first of all go an watch italy-australia game in 2006world cup, then judge… Henry is not to be blamed… players dive and never get caught…

    • Susie says:

Yes but the thing is, do those diving players make it a point to be part of a football campaign that is all about “fair play”?

What Henry did was such blatant cheating, combined with his dismissive attitude afterwards…it is really astounding to see this come from someone of his stature.

He deserves the roasting he is getting.

  9. Poor Russkies says:

Kay, seriously, Anyukov’s, “bitch I’ll cut you,” got me slightly more than Vida. Priceless.

Still gutted they won’t be there though, props to Slovenia.

  10. KateAlonso says:

oh my, Sheva looks so unhappy, come here Andriy, I’ll cheer you up a bit

  11. Avenath says:

    Vidic wins hands down!!…hahahahaha…oh wait, this isn’t a contest…nevermind…

  12. Maya says:

I’m an Egyptian & I think that regardless of the score, what the Algerian fans did after the match was unacceptable. Yes, our goalie is disappointed because his worldcup dreams were shattered- 4ever. It’s never JUST football. We can accept defeat but people viciously attacking our supporters & players is a celebration gone too far.
Al-Hadary is a wonderful player and we’re proud of our national team no matter what.”ta7ya masr”.

    • shay says:

I’d like to hear your thoughts on the attack of the Algerian player’s bus by Egypt fans. Don’t you think that was going too far also?

    • chena says:

the algerians were polite (or as polite as one can be in football) in the first home game against egypt. then they went to egypt and had stones thrown at them. that doesn’t make it okay for the algerians to respond in kind, but in terms of unacceptable behavir, it goes two ways.

    • Maya says:

The first home game:Not really,no. Our players were food-poisoned and Algerian fans took turns honking horns all night so they wouldn’t get any sleep.
When the Alegerian players came to Cairo:It was just one stone that was thrown at the bus(& it was a stupid fan,I’ll admit). The rest of the shattered glass was caused by Algerian players themselves. If you don’t believe me, there’s an actual footage showing Algerian players doing that. The video was taken by the bus driver.
Sudan:Sure, you guys have the right to celebrate but what kind of a celebration would scare an Egyptian TV presenter into taking her red T-shirt off and parading in her bra because she doesn’t want to get attacked? We even have the videos and injuries to show for it.
The videos show the Egyptian fans & players getting attacked with knives.
People, I don’t have anything against Algerians & I didn’t insult them so please don’t start calling my people names(ms indépendant).
Alright? And congratulations on qualifying.Good luck in South Africa.

  13. shay says:

I think that’s Nemanja’s “Opps I crapped my pants” face really.

  14. Venice says:

I’d like to congratulate Slovakia for qualifying, it’ll be their first World Cup ever – I hope they make the most of it :-)

  15. ms independant says:

    message to kaldy:
Could you explain to me why you say that ?
    Algeria deserves to succeed.

  16. ms independant says:

yeahhhhhh one two three viva l’algerie!!!!! In France, it was the “folie folie”, the party rages on!!!! one two three viva my country!!!!!! but the french soccer has badly played arggggghhhh, it was a funny match!!!!

  17. Susie says:

Oh and congrats to Algeria and Portugal for qualifying! :)

  18. Susie says:

France, proving once again, that when it comes to football…no one can cheat better than they can.

Thierry Henry should hang his head in shame.

    • Lily says:

and you’ve just showed us how impartial you were…

      • Susie says:

Maybe you should find any of the Portugal vs France matches of the last ten years or better yet, go Youtube that blatant dive Henry did against Puyol in the last World Cup (clutching his face for extra theatrics) trying to get him sent off.

Not exactly a shock to see Henry blatantly handle the ball and then have the absolute gull to sit by Dunne and admit he cheated but that it was “the ref’s fault” for not calling it.

    • kaya says:

There’s nothing to forgive what Henry did last night. But when I think of cheating, I haven’t yet seen anything that makes me believe Italy and Argentina have handed over the crown.

  19. Didi says:

For everyone who can`t understand why Russia didn`t qualify… Slovenia was just better. I still can`t believe it, I guess I never will and I`m Slovenian.
We controlled the whole match just Zhirkov was a bit annoying (to me).

    WE QUALIFIED!!!!

If you would tell me that a month ago I`d laughed my ass off.
In 2002 it was actually pure luck, now we were actually the better team.
and yes we`re the smallest country qho qualified for WC.
*turns off the computer and goes out to celebrate*

  20. Teamtoto says:

The “who farted face” LOFL! lol :D

  21. truly_thata says:

hahaha, Vidic’s face, and Congrats to team who qualified to WC10!
I’ll see you in South Africa

  22. Ah, Vida!! = priceless!

  23. HiL says:

How could Russia not qualify?? I am so sad i’m not going to see Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko, Bilyadetinov (most chances I spelled their names wrong) and co. in the WC. they were so much fun to watch in Euro 2008. that sucks.

It’s sad to see footballers cry ;( Damien Duff cried and I was so sad for him and his teammates.

    • Riya (Come on you Reds!) says:

I agree with everything you said. No Russia makes me sad.

Crying ballers makes me wish I was there to comfort them.

    • eveline says:

      haha, yeah it’s Bilyaletdinov ;)

    • blaaa says:

um, because slovenia clearly played better?

      just wondering …

      • HiL says:

Of course they were better, it was just a general question:P I just like the Russian team a lot and it’s shame I won’t get to see them, that’s all

  24. carly says:

    ahahahhaa Vidic.

I love players celebrating on top of the crossbar. Yay!

  25. Amy MUFC ( : says:

a seen the end of the ukraine a felt sorry for shevchenko cos that would have been his last wc.
ireland were cheated by france …. i wusnt boverd who that yan but as soon as france’s goal was aloud a wanted ireland to win.
    lovee vidic what a babbeee… :P

    • ViEiRA says:

I’m an Arsenal fan, so I’m not supposed to love Vidic, or Kranjcar, or Corluka. These south Slavs are sent to try me ! :D

  26. ellie says:

I really LOVE it when ballers cry. Is that wrong?

  27. SweetVito says:

Seriously… how do they get up on that crossbar?
