WC Qualifiers: Results
Sorry we’re so slow on the uptake today, Kickettes. We have no excuse.
But we will provide one example of the type of day we’ve been having: this morning on the train, we saw a delectable Alan Smith-type lookalike. When he stood up to get off, he swung his backpack up over his shoulder, causing his shirt to ride up, and we were gifted a flash of finely toned abs. You know how we feel about ab-flashes, yes?
But then, as he was waiting for the doors to open, he reached up seductively… and smelt his fingers.
So, yeah. We’re still dealing with that.
Michael Ballack, pre-slap at the Wales/Germany game.
Moving on to yesterday’s World Cup qualifiers. We were:
- pleased to see England win (love seeing all the different EPL boys together on the same side);
- shocked at the news that Lukas Podolski slapped Michael Ballack during the Germany match (although it was more of a girly face tickle);
- curious about Fernando Torres’s possible use of bronzer for the Spain game;
- confused as to why Argentina didn’t just put baby Benji on in their 6-1 loss to Boliva (surely it was worth a try?); and
- delighted to see Niko Kranjcar found his razor in time for the Croatia game.
What’s your take on all the results? Did you catch the controversial sending off in the Italy v Ireland match? We can’t wait for things to get back to normal in the leagues this weekend.

And Australia won too!! It’ll only be our third time at the World Cup if we qualify! But overall I was really happy with all of the results… and Niko looked gorgeous and Argentina just need to admit that they sucked and that Maradona will never ever be a good manager ever…
I haven't watched Italy v. Ireland yet, but anyone who would dare damage the gorgeous face of John O'Shea deserves a red card and a severe beating from me. Only kidding (sort of). From what I've read/heard it wasn't intentional, but those are the breaks. Delighted with the point for my men in green
That Alan Smith story, I can only guess kickette was giving him the eye. Love the reaction LOL
It's far from a loony excuse I agree, but it's also not a reason for defeat, more like one more thing that contributed to it. But Fifa allows for matches to be played at all kinds of grounds, and some of them should really be declared unfit for professional football.
hmm.. i wish i'd seen an alan smith lookalike ._. i just know adrian mutu and iker ones ;~. oh the england match! i loved it even more because sheva scored. podolski, dude. you just don't bitchslap your captain!! aww lahm, aww per! ok, i'll just be respectful and say nothing about the Argentina match. but their match + our win sure made Brazil a lot happier XDD
Lol, at your train-Alan Smith. That would be… uh, disconcerting. I saw the "slap". Oh Poldi, why? I love Ballack's face after it. He seems to be all, "okay, if this is how you want it". Malin, the boys at Dirty Tackle and I had some theories regarding the Argie/Bolivia game involving high altitude and pan flutes. Poor Argies.
I saw the send off that shouldn't have even been a yellow. Alas, these things happen. When blood flows like that (wow, O'Shea looked like he was in a war film), refs feel the need to give a card. It sucks, but to me it's worse b/c minutes prior were 2 worse fouls on 2 Italian players. Not that I thought those Irish players should have been sent off instead, but a little even-handedness from the ref would have been nice. Eh, oh well.
Not good of Poldi to slap Ballack, respect and all that. Plus what will the other players think?
I was really happy to see England and Spain both pick up last minute winners. Happy for Josie Altidore’s hat trick as well–he’s going to become a very talented footballer.
As for Argentina’s loss….the altitude excuse is a very real one. Doesn’t necessarily account for 6 goals, but that stadium is over 2 miles above sea level and the Argentinians apparently arrived only hours before the match. They had ZERO time to adapt. It would have been like slogging through mud. I can’t even imagine. I have gone from sea level to a mile up and tried to go for a run and nearly passed out. This is double that altitude and 90 minutes. It is FAR from loony. There’s a reason nearly all of Bolivia’s wins come at home.
I have yet to see the slap by Poldi… I'm an eagerly awaiting it (not in a whoa-poldi-slapped-micha way, but just because I think it'll be entertaining). I started watching the match last night but it was one in the morning so I'm just going to finish it today sometime. I did see a ton o' Schweini on my screen, made my night/early morning. Gah. That red on Pazzini was not deserved at all. Yeah there was blood… but just because there was blood doesn't mean it has to be a red. It wasn't intentional in anyway. So then we had to play down a man for nearly the entire match ):
The US win was awesome, even though I am sad that Heath Pearce didn't even make the bench. Scurry back to Germany and get yourself a transfer so I can see more of your sexy ass! I was excited to see Jozy's hat trick, maybe now Xeres will play him. I watched 20 mins or so of the Denmark game, Danny looked sexy as always. My Spain feed died on me, so I didn't see the Riera goal or the general sexiness of the Spain side. ::sign:: I must resort to photos. Saw the ending of the England game, JT's goal celebration made me laugh. Good times.
the claw is out on German NT
*shakes head at poldi* silly lad…! >: young and silly, that's what that was… well, at least it showed their commitment to the game… and i love how micha handled that – didn't fly off the handle… gotta love per and lahmy stepping in as well… apparently it's water under the bridge now and everything is fine – la la la la laaaa… ;D btw, micha's goal was sa-weeet…!! (love the pic up there kickette – thanks..! *~*) well, all my teams won, so i'm happy… ; )
Mmm Niko, he looks delicious. <img src="http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn46/Venetian_Glass/Niko/niko-charlie-dudu-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">I'm pleased with the results that were important to us, and rather amused/surprised at the others. I really love international breaks!
I am confused by this high altitude loony excuse, and a looney excuss it is. How many times have Argentina played in Boliva over the years? With WCQ and Copa America qualifing, Boliva even hosting the tourney a couple of times. Suddenly, the high altitude is an issue? This is little diaster is why as a manager you put up with all Riquelme's crazy-divaness. He does not let that happen to his teams
JOZY's HAT TRICK is all I cared about (and the 3 points the US got from it. Donavan was awesome, 3 assists)
I love fiesty Germans, but… no one slaps Michael Ballack. Hands off. It's all about respect, Poldi mate. I adore Poldi but… no. Just no.Otherwise, good day! Michael scored again, Germany won, England won, and the USA won.
Nice story Kickette XD ! I’m happy England won :] And all I have to say about the clash between Ballack and Podolski – GO POLDI!
hee hee
Er no, I’m not going to say it’s the sole reason they lost. It contributed, but it definitely wasn’t the only reason, I’m sure.
Tammy, the high altitude has been an issue for ages and a ton of people have complained about it over the years. It’s not a new or loony excuse. There’s a reason many olympic athletes train in high-altitude environments. The oxygen deprivation at those elevations (and it IS significant) trains their bodies to be able to work with less oxygen so they then preform better when they get to normal elevations.
Happy about England picking up another three points.
Those happenings in the German NT shouldn’t be tolerated. If the respect goes thigs are bad.
Fantastic strike by Ballack though.
Good results for the United boys, so I’m pleased. Ballack should have slapped him back pimp style. Sounds like the younger guys are moving in for the kill. Super goal from him. As was Jonny Evans. His first for NI. The red card in the Ireland v Italy was harsh. And, I have to agree with others about the altitude thing. Six goals is a little hard to excuse, but it does have a huge impact. The person really at fault was Maradona not getting the team there a couple of days ahead of time to adjust as best they could.
The slap was the best part of it all. Hilarious, but also worrying for german fans…I mean, no respect for the captain? That’s really bad. But at the same time, a little voice inside me said: give it to him, Poldi. lol
The Argentina NT physician was really worried and mentioned a tragedy could happen any day with the players that aren’t used to playing at high altitude. 3600 meters is no joke! *shudders* I can’t even think about that…
