Weekend Results: Good For… Some
Image via Reuters
As you can see by this rather stacked manpile, the Real Salt Lake boys are happy. They won the MLS Cup, beating the LA Galaxy 5-4 in a penalty shootout. (Congrats RSL!)
Let’s take a moment to talk about the penalties, shall we? There’s always gotta be someone. The fans know it. The players know it. So, Landon Donovan: you’re in the club now. We’re wondering if after the whole yakking it up to the Beckham book writer thing and then missing a penalty in the finals resulted in a brief moment of eye contact in the dressing room between Becks and Landon. Eye contact that says, “Karma, dude. It’s a beyatch.”
Probably not.
We’d also like to have been a fly on the wall in the Wigan dressing room after they lost 9-1 to Tottenham this weekend. Mercy. It’s like a cricket score.
Kudos to Jermain Defoe who has shaken off his man-whoreness and is looking amazing on the pitch right now.
How was the weekend for you? Did your boys give you the result you were after?

Half of that man-pile is actually made up of Kyle Beckerman's dreadlocks.
Real Madrid won. Yay!
I don’t follow MLS but I even I was disappointed LA didn’t win. I guess all us fans in the States harbored these dreams of Becks finally giving footie some prestige here… If Becks couldn’t do it no one can.
But still. Congrats to all the Real Salt Lake fans out there.
Chelsea won and I was there at Stamford Bridge to see Malouda’s stunner, Essien’s two (almost three) lovely goals and Joey Cole’s first goal of the season, so elation really does not begin to describe it. Now if Frank had played without base layers, scored and thrown his shirt to me post-game and then asked me out, well that would have been complete perfection.
I support Queens Park Rangers (who lost. ) There don't seem to be many girls around here who support English clubs outside the so called big four. You don't know what you are missing, girls. Real football. Real fans. Support your local club.
My local club is New England Revolution. I've got a season ticket. They didn't play over the weekend.
And on Wednesday, I'm going to support another of my local clubs: the University of Connecticut men's basketball team
Chelsea won. Real Madrid won. I couldn’t be happier.
I didn’t understand why Becks looked so sad.. now the Galaxy are just like England. They can’t win a shootout either.
And this is the second PK Landon has missed that would have won the Galaxy a cup.
I would have liked to be a fly on the wall of the Spurs dressing room. Oh yes, so much love and buzzing in one single space. Phew…
This was a weird weekend. My boys didn’t play due to a terrible pitch, so I’m desperate for wednesday.
A very good weekend for football…except for Wigan, of course. I feel sorry for them cause…damn. But you have to say hats off to Spurs on that one, and to Jermain Defoe. Wow. After my initial shock at the scoreline, I thought to myself ‘ Now wait a minute. Isn’t this the same Wigan that beat Chelsea earlier in the season?’ lol Football is strange. I’m sure my boys are shaking their heads about that right now. lol But about my boys- JOE COLE scored his first goal in about a year on Saturday’s match with Wolves. Well done Joe! So that was a definite highlight to the weekend. Also, I feel sorry for the Galaxy. It would have been a nice way to wrap up the turnaround that team has seen this season, and I would have liked the idea of David being able to add an MLS Cup to his trophy case. Ah well….
Wigan captain Mario Melchiot announced on the team site that the players have offered to refund their supporters for any tickets purchased for that match because they are ashamed of letting them down so badly. I think that's lovely and rather classy. What would be classier is for the Wigan supporters to refuse the refund. You support your team, win or lose. I'll be interested to hear what happens.
Well I’m an Arsenal fan and nothing else so… no.
loved the united result what a goal from fletcher, sad to see berba not playing
great result for spurs tho cant believe it wos 9-1!!

It was a bad weekend!
Pompey lost
Boatang's penalty didn't help things!!
And then Lverpool Draw
Poor Lando! Poor Galaxy! But that was one entertaining shoot-out!! Congrats to RSL.
Well, my boys didn’t get me good results at all. Liverpool drew with Man City and since I hate Man C, Liverpool really should have won… And a draw wasn’t good for them on the Premier League table either.
And Arsenal lost… ;’( Cesc wasn’t himself at all and so wasn’t any of the other boys either… And Barça only drew too *sigh*.
Luckily Valencia won.
Bad weekend. Liverpool drew. Galaxy lost. Don't get me started on La Liga. I have a feeling this will only get worse…
RSL definitely stepped up their game after the first half, so hats off to them for the win.:D poor becks; such good talent to waste. my parents and i were so frustrated for him.:( anyway, i could say a looooooooooot of nasty things about donovan and the mls, but…i won't. lol. all i can say for now is- ABSOLUTE KARMA. karma at its finest. so much for being CAPTAIN, huh? ugh. i'm hoping becks won't return to the mls, so that'll be my last mls/american soccer match ever.
on a lighter and happier note- YAY FOR VALENCIA'S WINNNNNNNN!!!!!!!:D
well liverpool drew so…..guh there. but valencia won! but it was guh there too 'cause them lying scum on espn didn't have that match, no because they thought a re-run of barca-bilbao was more important so i don't even know who other than mata and villa scored. but on the upside llorente is lookin fab, and henderson (sunderland) is sooooooooo smexci!!! god i think i love that kid. well i know i love him because i openly like someone on sunderland. that spurs match was ridonculous!!! tho idon't think anyone who scored should feel too special…… (plz note i mean no offence to wigan or sunderland)
Another match, another 5 injuries. If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all this season! It's disheartening, but I still love my Liverpool through thick and thin. And I still know that when we do get a fit squad (whenever that may be), they'll be smashing!
i fear rafa may have spent the injury fairy's fees on kyrgiakos
atleast agger and johnson can go to hungary but i think we might not win
It was a mixed weekend to be honest.
First, on Friday my home team Zagreb, which is frankly doing terrible this season, finally lifted off the bottom for the first time since the start of the season with a superb 4-0 win. We are now second to last, and I can't believe this comes as a success as all these years before we were comfortably midtable or higher. But yeah, it's actually making me happy.
Saturday made me sad again as it brought another struggle for Liverpool. They are going through agony at the moment and I wish I were smarter so I could think of a solution other than a complete makeover, but that's always the path of least resistance.
However, Sunday made me smile again, with the unbelievable performances from my favourite players, Niko was finally back to his best with an amazing performance in the Spurs side, and Charlie was awesome too and had lush sexy hair, I was all over the place.
I know that result doesn't bode well for Liverpool but I am beyond happy for my players to be doing so well.
Even if my FFT was a bit of a fail :-/
1-1 and dropping to second place behind the Madridistas.
2-1 and dropping to second place behind the Protestants.
Not a good weekend!
Though I wouldn't go so far as to say that Darren Fletcher is the new Roy Keane, he really was excellent on Saturday. What a strike.
Also, very happy for Brucey and the Sunderland lads.
Chelsea won 4-0, Werder Bremen won 6-0, all in all a good weekend.
Yeah for my home team RSL! (Yes, we do have many football fans here.) Once I was driving home from downtown Salt Lake, there was a giant billboard of "Mr. Dreadlocks" Kyle Beckerman and I because the billboard made my jaws drop and eyes widen, I almost crashed my car!
Oops, typo on there. My bad.
I'm just happy Vida's back on the pitch
For me it was a great weekend :]] United won plus Michael scored
couldn't be better.
9-1! 5 from Jermaine! what an incredible result, He must be delighted. not many players scored 5 goals in a match in the PL.
