Weekend Results: In-Flight Entertainment

Hot footballers international duty UEFA Euro 2012

Friday night international fixtures: sorry, but seriously? There are certain things in life that are sacred, and our freedom to plan our entire lives around the period of self-inflicted oblivion that occurs between the hours of 4pm Friday to about 3am on a Saturday morning is one of them.

Have some respect, FIFA or UEFA or whoeverthehell is in charge. The wrath of woman (post-intoxication) is not something you are equipped to mess with.

France 3-0 Albania

A brilliant result. The scoreline wasn’t too bad, either. Image: MIGUEL MEDINA/AFP/Getty Images.

Czech Republic 0-2 Spain

Not only does this photo offer us a close-up view of Tomas Hubschman’s tackle on Xabi Alonso, we can also see the Spanish midfielder’s rear end with unprecedented clarity. Image: REUTERS/David W Cerny.

Serbia 1-1 Italy

Again, we must commend the photographer on his talent. Knowing exactly when to hit the button to achieve this sort of coverage is a skill that cannot be learned. Image: Claudio Villa/Getty Images Europe.

Montenegro 2-2 England

Yeah, it’s probably a bit late for that now, Waz. Image: AP Photo/Darko Bandic.

Turkey 1-3 Germany

This gesture of congratulatory ear pulling appears to have been accepted in the spirit it was meant. Which is good when you consider the alternative scenario. Image: REUTERS/Murad Sezer.

USA 1-0 Honduras

The US Aerobatic Display Team put in a characteristically effusive performance against Honduras. Image: Marc Serota/Getty Images North America.

Uruguay 4-2 Bolivia

Uruguay’s aerial prowess was less coordinated, but ultimately more satisfying for the viewing public. Image: PABLO PORCIUNCULA/AFP/Getty Images.

Argentina 4-1 Chile

Gotta be honest with you, Leo. You might be the best player in the universe ever, but Higgy scored his second hat-trick of the week and you only scored one goal. You’ve been forgotten. Image: AP Photo/Eduardo Di Baia.

Whaddya think, peeps? Is Friday at 8pm the new Saturday at 3pm? Or are you peeved that your local bar’s Happy Hour hospitality has been hampered?

hooray a win for the USA! (and a good picture by the photographer)
england vs. montenegro was a good game…from what I could SEE… the picture quality on espn3 wasn't very good. I did, however, see rooney's tackle… what has gotten into him?!
messi's hair looks very fluffy these days… and speaking of hair, mario gomez…?
mexico game tomorrow!! chicharito was announced to play, among others… http://www.goal.com/en/news/468/internationals/20…

Uruguay was sooooo great! imo Lugano is so much better than Forlán!
Argentina was great…..Pipita Pipita Pipitaaaaaa!!! he's showing that won't let the fans down when it comes to playing for the NT! The Messi pic is a bit unfair :S

Wayne, I know you're under pressure because of your dad's situ, but …why??

  8. rslkdl says:

LOL. Love the caption on the USA pic. Did you know there was a frog hopping around just outside Timmy's penalty box for the first half? http://twitter.com/#!/ussoccer/status/12280557051…

  9. Americus Killaponius says:

I don't care what anybody says. Mario Gomez's hair is fierce and i love it.

  10. gin_in_teacups says:

Clint Dempsey FTW!!! WIns for the USA and Spain = a satisfying weekend.

  11. Kristina says:

Sweden won theirs! Yay! No thanks to Zlatan though. He looked big, slow and disinterested.

Rooney is such an idiot sometimes. And the Montenegro players celebrated as if they had won the whole thing already. That's the spirit! Wonderful to watch!

And of course there's a picture of Messi. He's the conductor of the game, pretty much. Things seems to be turning around for Argentina since he became captain. Pipita was awesome!

For my part I've been watching some rugby as well, and MAN it's entertaining! I know it's OT but it's gonna be some kick-ass semifinals.

  12. Hot4Spurs says:

So happy USA got their first win under Klinsmann! I hope this is the first of many to come.

England v Montenegro was a good game. I was disappointed in Rooney for the intentional kick on an opposing player. He knows better than that. I wish England would have gotten the win though.

Did anyone see Bale's goal for Wales? I hear he got motm!

    • LuvinBale says:

#1- Super happy for the US- games well played gentlemen!
#2- I could not find the Wales game anywhere to save my life! AND to top it all off Bale had a goal!!

Kickette I implore you- if you have highlights or pictures of said game with photographic evidence of Bale making a goal- please please please post!

      Thank You in advance.

P.S.= Hot4Spurs- are you a US based Kickette?

  13. Sarah, Madrid says:

Alonsoooooooo!!! The boss was hurting and our heart was hurting for him too, what a harsh tackle!:(, btw white is soo alonso's color! Vamos Espana, full mark with style!!!,Mata I so loved his assist to Alonso! Great combination!,

Pipita back to back hat trick, what more can I say, he assisted even messi goal! So proud and happy for my Pipita! He deserves it, it is for his doubters and I know they are plenty! For me messi and pipa are deadly attack, but Di Maria gave Pipita assist of the season, beauty of a goal, I still think argentine needs work, I still don't know what's do argentine coaches have against Pastore!

  14. Ms Higuain says:
