Weekend Results: Jumpin’

What a weekend of footy!

We were most surprised (unsurprisingly) by the Manchester United and Chelsea results. We also thought Aston Villa* would have had a slightly better game against Liverpool. And, we couldn’t help but feel for Newcastle – and Michael Owen – who have now dropped to the bottom three after the Arsenal loss. (Wenger thinks the Gunners still have a title chance, btw.)

Unfortunately, we missed most of the European action, including Barcelona’s 6-0 result against Malaga, and Juventus rolling over Roma 4-1, which is shocking, considering the reported liberal usage of hair elastics by Mexes in the game. It’s the little details that can swing a game, but his double ponytail just couldn’t bring it home.

Hope you had a good one both on and off the pitch!

That’s enough punditry for us – we’re off to scarper for non-base-layer wearing ballers in compromising positions.

*

The results of our impromptu Villa/Pool poll on Twitter: Luke Young was mostly seen as a “nottie”, Gareth Barry was generally an “I wouldn’t” except for a fair few Kickettes who found him quite fanciable. (Or, to put it another way, “I would bang him like a screen door in a hurricane.“) And Xabi Alonso’s beard was 50/50 for approval ratio.

Not the results I was hoping for on the whole. However we have two weeks to regroup and kick start the run in to the end of the race. I agree TFO it is truly a race now. I echo TFO’s sentiments about Scholesy and Roo!

  6. The Fourth Official says:

As humbling (and painful) as the last two weeks have been, I will make a concerted effort to swallow my pride and say congratulations to Liverpool ladies on another decisive victory. Please forgive me if I hope that your impressive form doesn’t continue. The title race is truly a "race" now!

Oh, and Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney, we love you. ok

I'd like to participate on your twitter polls Kickette but you'll have to add me, otherwise you won't see my answers. I still think United have one hand in the trophy already. I'm saying this from a very distanced point of view.

It's been a fantastic couple of weeks! Not getting too carried away, but enjoying every minute of it! It's practically a novelty for us. <IMG title="too funny" height="16" alt="too funny" src="http://staticll.fluxstatic.com/-/Clients/Common/Img/RTE/smiley/alpha/too_funny.gif" width="16">

  11. Erin says:

Ha! No, it was not me with the screen door comment this time! And I can assure you I would most definitely not be up for banging Barry. lol <IMG title="sun" height="22" alt="sun" src="http://staticll.fluxstatic.com/-/Clients/Common/Img/RTE/smiley/alpha/sun.gif" width="22">

The mancs , The Chavs and The Bitters all lost on the same weekend with the help of some ex-Liverpool players ! This weekend was awesome ..walk on redmen our title hopes are very much alive ! YNWA !

  15. LizB (Mrs. Vucinic) says:

Well I made cookies to celebrate ManU losing and then ended up eating a great deal of them after Roma lost too ): but then Liverpool absolutely trounced Villa and the cookies went back to being celebratory. Good weekend over all but I'd like it if just once once both Pool and Roma could win in the same weekend.

  16. suzie says:

Fantastic weekend for us. 5 goals and nando didn't score ANY!!!???? AMAZING goal by Riera. Now I have something to shut my dad up with (he's a utd fan) but his cars 'broken' and won't be able to visit me- probably until the end of the season. lol

  17. Helle (Footiegirl) says:

This was indeed a fantastic weekend! Must that apart from Pool's incredible form I also quite enjoyed ManU and Chelsea's results. Now the race really is open again…. And just wondering, is that you again Erin; with the bang him like a screen door in a hurricane?

  18. Dani.Mrs José says:

    Loved this weekends Results !

  19. Moonie says:

Great weekend of footy (except the Toon result but I expected that) and what better way to celebrate than with Thierry's thighs.

  20. Dee13 (mrs m metze) says:

oh thierry… *~* i wish you never left the gunners…btw, thanks 'pool for keeping villa at bay… ; )

  21. Gina Villamelon says:

My footballing weekend for the first time in a long time was a total success. Liverpool won convincingly, Valencia won full stop. The only bad thing (and this was a pretty major downer on the whole thing actually) was Alexis getting sent off. It wasn't even worthy of a red card. Pft. Spanish referees are fail sometimes.

  22. Venice says:

I love the past two weeks, they've been absolutely amazing, if only Eduardo were playing too it would be just perfect. I don't know why are you so surprised by the Spurs result though – not to take anything away from Guus and the excellent Chelsea team, but Tottenham have a great record vs top 4 this season, plus they are definitely on the up. As are Portsmouth btw, and more good stuff will come from them in the next few weeks.Oh and I just want to say that this is the most exciting season I can remember in a long time! Not just the title race but throughout the table.

  23. Erin says:

And in the spirit of "Jumpin" from the weekend…… <img src="http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk101/ErinLiverpoolFC/2h4yjnl.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">

  24. Kylah (twinyk) says:

“I would bang him like a screen door in a hurricane.“ Erin your saying has spread and made it to kickettes front page LOL. This weekend was full of shocks, and I’m going to enjoy while I can

  25. 'TorresNubianQueen' says:

Hopefully my team has now cement fourth spot, sooo happy bendtner scored……What’s wiv martins hairstyle though he lukd scary lol and gud save by almunia really suprised wiv Man Utd form and the baby tantrums demonstrated by Ronnie were cringeworthy lol bless him he was defo not having a good day Well done to Liverpool what a thrashing and they helped us out an all wiv Villa lol hope Livrpool win the title i think they deserve it, and so happy for stevie’s hattrick, and Torres lukd gorgeous as usual

  26. nyclfclvr says:

What a fantastic weekend! Pepe broke a club record and got an assist; Stevie and Xabi showed flickers of the romance of seasons past; and Dirkinho and Riera scored some awesome goals. I appreciated how sober Rafa and Stevie were in their post-match interviews. We’ll see how this all plays out. I’m just so proud to see my team finally going in for the kill.

  27. Dreamgirl says:

What can I say that hasn’t been said. Well done Liverpool and may the best team win in the end.

  28. aristeia says:

Mmmmm. I will never complain about a Titi pic on the main page. Yum.

United fans, obviously from the Pool side this makes things better, but as a football this makes things much more exciting!

The return of Mexes in general, piggies aside, was a highpoint in my day. Seeing the piggies back was extra exciting. And then… Roma went… blech. Oh Roma, all I ask from you this season is a CL slot, removal of clothes and the occasional ROmanpile. Per favore?

Oh and I know EXACTLY who said that screen door remark. I’ll let her take responsibility though. ; )

  29. Callie says:

I prefer not to make my allegiances public, although some may know what they are, but I will say this definitely makes things more interesting!

  30. TammyV says:

I have to say that after all the march to five trophies stuff.. Man Utd suffering some humaliation and humbling seems karmic.

Liverpool were fantastic and not sure what the MON is doing with Villa but dear god, get it together.

The Newcastle result was not a shock as long as we end in 16th place. I am fine with it. This year has been seriously bizarre in its dramas: Keegan, Joe, Joe’s surgery, Owen’s 297 additional injuries, Barton’s well all of the Barton stuff…and the list goes on….

This weekend’s footie was full of amazingness!

Oh Arsene, ever the optimist! Thanks in part to our resurgent form (despite continuous injury woes) and in part to Villa’s self-destruction, I now believe we can hold on to our Champions League spot. But the title is a liiiiitle bit out of reach by now, hahaha. Still alive in other competitions though!

And oh Titi, so much love! ? ?
