The Van der Vaarts: Welcome To London

Image via Peter Smulders

Our girl crush prayers have been answered, Kickettes!

Tottenham Hotspur signed Rafael van der Vaart at the close of the EPL transfer window on Tuesday, thus bringing he and his gorgeous, perfect, (alright, we’ve run out of adjectives) wife Sylvie and their adorable little son Damian to London, England.

Last month when we expressed our feelings, most of you thought that the VDVs would end up in the Northwest or just stay in Madrid. Not in our wildest dreams involving Joe Hart did we think they would come to Londontown.

Remind us to send Harry Redknapp a muffin basket.

We would assume that Sylvie will still have her telly presenting duties with German broadcaster RTL to take care of. And we already know that she’s adept at jetsetting, so just imagine all of the photos we’ll get of Sylvie coming in and out of Heathrow looking like she just walked off a runway.

And if that isn’t sufficient to sate you, we can’t wait to see Sylvie really embrace her new home by wearing some of the amazing British designers based in London. Surely she’ll need a Burberry coat for the chilly London winters. Perhaps a Matthew Williamson dress for all of the fabu London events she’ll be attending. And no London girl should be without a classic Stella McCartney blazer.

We’re all aflutter with the possibilities, Kickettes! Tell us, where do you think the van der Vaarts should hang out in London? Will Sylvie prefer Harrods to Harvey Nicks? Will they stock their shelves with Waitrose or M&S?

We need answers!

oh and by the way, she doesn't stock the shelves in M&S or Waitrose, she shops at Sainsburys =P, i saw her there last weekend

  2. chaos says:

Never understood the hype about Sylvie. Was she a TV personality in Holland before moving to Hamburg? Is she still a TV host or just shows up in reality dance shows? Still, better than that Spice Girl. No doubt London tabloids are rejoicing over Silvie's arrival and she will challenge and hopefully make people forget Posh Spice!

  3. Rossanera says:

I really dislike how unceremoniously so many quality players have been given the boot in recent weeks. Raul’s move devastated me, Boriello’s upset me, andd while I don’t really care that much for VDV, I do feel that he was treated poorly.

    Another reason to DISLIKE Madrid.

  4. LoveFabrique says:

VDV is hella cute… anyway as much as I would have loved to keep him in Madrid… he wasn’t gonna get a lot of playing time considering how many midfielders Madrid just bought. smh. He’s at Spurs though… :(

  5. Ingrid says:

why did Madrid sell him? ugh they sell all good players, Sneijder, Robben and now Rafa…;(

    • Mel says:

AND Raul. Despite the fact that Mourinho said to both Rafa and Raul, he was counting on them and wanted both on the team. Someone else somewhere in the club felt differently……

  6. Zlatanista says:

I have absolutely no opinion whatsoever on the personality of Sylvie, but she is so very beautiful! And the kid has a healthy, sceptical look on him. A good way to approach the world :)

Congratulations to the Spurs! Maybe this will jinx RM? *crosses fingers*

    • Mourinho says:

      Judging you… : |

    • Lisa says:

lol I almost didn’t notice the kid making some serious Bitchface. what a cutie he is. Inherited some good genes there.

      • Steph says:

lol, he is! His bitchface is cute, though. :P He is adorable! And yeah, he definitely got some great genes. He’s gonna be even cuter when he gets older. Speaking of him, I saw this really cute pic on Tumblr earlier. It’s Damien and Van Persie’s kid playing on the field. :D It’s so cute!

  7. Claire says:

    That's too bad. I have to hate them now… f*cking Spurs. :-/

  8. ASM says:

i'm still gutted about his departure..more painful, spurs is my rival in PL..ouch..this.broke.my heart.into.pieces.anyway,thanks for everything rafa..wish him best of luck at london..he deserves better than the way RM's management treated him..i still hope its never happen..*sniff* T_T

  12. Think says:

NNNNNOOOOO!!! I don't care about Silvie but poor Rafa. The guy really tried to stay in Madrid but in the end, it was all for nothing :( Why, Madrid, why?

  13. Mrs. Navas says:

okay kickettes so we're welcoming the van der vaarts to london but did we forget to wish javi martinez a happy birthday?

  14. tammyv says:

She is shopping at Whole Foods lets be honest…

and as for the rest, I believe there is finally a viable threat to Victoria’s Queen WAG crown

  15. Making the EPL a more beautiful place! Thanks, Harry! I know it won’t happen but a part of me is really hoping that Sylvie will come up to Old Trafford for the Spurs match v. my United. I’d love to see her in person when I’m there…or I’ll just have to opt to stalk her in London.

    Welcome to England!

  16. I actually clapped my hands with glee. :)

  17. Aisha says:

I am actually so happy that they have arrived in the UK! Sylvie is gorgeous and so is Rafa!! :) x

  18. MrsRedknapp says:

I was hoping you got my tweet! i tweeted you as soon as it happened :) X

  19. Leya says:

    omg yay!

…except that I live in NY, so this doesn't affect me as much, but YAY!

I <3 them, that pic is so perfect!

  20. rubyqueen says:

i don't really know this woman.!!but i've heard so much about her.:) i can't wait to start seeing her in the paper's.:)i think she will be a classt breath of frsh air in a world of superficial golddigging skanks.:)

  21. gin_in_teacups says:

I'm not over the disbelief and sadness that RM sold Rafa, and he did an interview about it that broke my heart. The Spurs are lucky to have him, and I hope he'll do really well there. I know Sylvie is gonna rock London.

Also, that's quite a bitchface on baby VDV!

    • Leya says:

Haha, yeah that bitchface is one to rival David Villa's

      • gin_in_teacups says:

It’s pretty epic. And in my mind that face is directed at Perez and Valdano: “Oh really? You don’t want my Dad? Well, here’s what I think of THAT!”

  22. LuvinBale says:

    I'm am just gushing giddiness.

1- we got VdV on the team. So

I am feeling better about upcoming games.

2- of all the WAGs to have- we got Sylvie to represent!

Harry did good. He is a wheeler-dealer!

  23. Mel says:

I feel like crying because they have left Madrid. I thought Mourinho said he wantet Rafa to stay…. Maybe someone else in the club didn't feel the same way.

Something is wrong when great players leave good clubs. I wish him all the best in London. He will surely be missed in Madrid!

Perhaps they will pop in for a visit in Madrid once in a while.

    • *Maylea* says:

I’m agree too… Don’t you notice non of all Holland players are now out of the team? I think they didn’t want any player from Calderón and simply… ADIÓS,RAFA, ADIÓS…

I’ll miss this couple here in Madrid :/

  24. WagInTraining says:

i found out 10 mins ago! I AM BUZZING. we welcome them with open arms!

  25. xoWinnie says:

given the fact that the woman battled breast cancer

i believe she is entitled to be a bit self-absorbed.

    gees…

  26. WagInTraining says:

'a matter of fact'? well, unless you know her personally…

  27. Lisa says:

eliza I agree with you that there is a lot of sugar-coating on this site. A lot of times it has put me off coming here. But after a while you get used to it and even start to appreciate it once you have been to every other (male-dominated) football site, full of hate and venom.

Ass-kissing aside, when it comes to Sylvie I'm inclined to agree with xoWinnie. The woman beat cancer for goodness sake. That gives her a pass to do whatever she likes for the rest of her life. Who are we to stop her from doing that?

  28. WagInTraining says:

:o cool! but how well did you know her though? :/

  29. Jo says:
